Enigma is a support group in Stowmarket supporting individuals who struggle with regulating their emotions. They follow a Dialectical Behaviour therapy approach based around the workbook by McKay,Wood and Brantley – there are exercises but completing them is not compulsory. Our “inner child” is a reference that is heard more and more outside of counselling. One dictionary definition describes it as “a person’s supposed original or true self, especially when regarded as concealed in adulthood”. Our inner child often comes out unconsciously and consciously in our thinking, behaviour and actions, both positive and less so, and when acknowledged can provide vital communications of unresolved or poorly negotiated development phases. Anger can cloak an array of feelings – it is often one of the rawest emotions to display and yet when we look past its hot or coldness to it’s true source the emotions and feelings are often very different.
